Welcome to M5!

We have started Term 2 with lots of exciting learning and activities!

Our Specialist subjects at the moment are:

  • Visual Arts, with Miss Andrews

  • Performing Arts, with Miss Roberts

  • Digital Technologies, with Mr McJorrow

Our current inquiry topic is Social Justice.

In our inquiry, we are learning that:

  • All societies have some level of injustice or inequality.

  • Injustices can be reduced when people take action.

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about the history of protests in Aotearoa, and our class has created several posters to share our learning.

We are currently reading about the Polynesian Panthers, the Dawn Raids, and the injustice and prejudice they faced.  This article is available as a PDF at the following link.

In Maths, we spent the last few weeks learning about statistics, including how to create a survey and display data on a graph. We have also learned about stem-and-leaf graphs, and how to find the lower quartile (Q1), upper quartile (Q3), and the interquartile range (IQR).

We also went on an exciting trip to Te Papa Museum, where we explored the exhibitions and created social justice badges with Learning Innovation Specialist Jessie Robieson. It was an engaging experience and heaps of fun!

Stay tuned — there’s plenty more exciting learning to come! We can’t wait to share what we’ll be exploring next!
