Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa Let us keep close together, not wide apart
Kia ora koutou katoa
We know a solid relationship between home and school is paramount for students to achieve their full potential, therefore we were delighted to see so many families coming in for our whānau conferences. Our teachers all commented on how much they value the time to talk with whānau, sharing successes and setting goals to ensure our students get the very best out of the remainder of the year. This is especially important for our Year 8 students as they prepare to transition to college next year. If you missed a chance to catch up with your child’s classroom teacher please don’t hesitate to get in touch with them should you have any questions or concerns.
Sadly the cold and flu season is well upon us with high student and staff absences due to illness. A gentle reminder, if your child is sick please do not send them to school. The current cold and flu strains are particularly virulent and we would like to limit their spread amongst students and staff.
Please remember we have robust systems and structures around the use of cellphones in school, their storage and how students are to contact whānau during the school day. Unfortunately, a number of students are circumventing these processes. Aside from the fact that it is now mandated by the Government that cell phone use during school hours is not permitted, the school does not take any responsibility for the loss or damage of a cellphone that has not been handed in at the start of the school day. It is also irritating for our staff when a child rings or texts a whanau member to come and take them home and the class teacher and office staff know nothing about the call. The correct process if a student is unwell, is for them to firstly speak to their teacher, who will send them to the office. Our office staff will then contact the designated contact person to arrange for them to be picked up. We appreciate your help to ensure our procedures are followed.
It looks like we are in for a long overdue spell of fine weather. We hope you all get a chance to get out and about and enjoy it. Fingers crossed the weekend activities all run as planned, and you get the opportunity to spend some quality time together.
Ngā mihi
