This term has been incredibly busy, with lots on and, as always with a short term, everything feels more urgent. 

There’s a real buzz around the school as our kapa haka and Poly group prepare for HuttFest 2025. Their dedication, hard work, and passion are shining through—practices are intense, polished, and filled with pride. The strength of many students working together is evident as they continue their preparation.  We can’t wait to see them take the stage and represent our school.

Thank you for your patience and support during our Maths Professional Learning and Development day yesterday. This day was organised by the Ministry of Education to support the implementation of the refreshed Maths and Statistics curriculum. Our teachers are excited to implement some of the new ideas in their classrooms. Just a note that we will have our third Maths PLD day on Monday 27 August (Week 7, Term 3).

A reminder that mid-year reports will be coming home on Wednesday 25 June. These reports are a snapshot of where your child is at in their learning journey and are designed to support the conversations you’ll have with teachers during our parent interviews next term. We encourage you to take the time to read through the report with your child and celebrate their progress.

As we move deeper into the winter months, we are seeing the usual colds and flu making the rounds. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home to rest and recover, and to help us protect the wellbeing of everyone at school.

We are looking forward to our Matariki breakfast being held here at school from 7:00 to 8:00 am next Wednesday. If you are attending please fill in the form via the link contained within this newsletter. 

As part of our fundraising for the 40 hour famine this year we held a very successful bake sale at lunchtime.  In addition to this we also have many students taking part in activities this weekend to support the 40 hour famine.  We wish them well with their endeavours and look forward to hearing all about them next week. Thank you to Mr Serpa who has coordinated these efforts.

We are updating our website to include Team News pages. These will be updated with information and photographs to share the learning and activities that are going on in and out of the classrooms.  Please take a moment to have a look at all the things that have been going on. Auditions for Hutt Intermediate Has Got Talent 2025 have been completed and what an incredible amount of talent we have here at HIS. It was great to see so many students have a go. Byron was the top point scorer with 28 students from that House taking part. Well done to all of the students who took part and congratulations to our finalists!

The finalists will be performing on Wednesday 23rd July at 7pm showing off their particular talents to friends, family and the school community. The show will include singing, dancing, musical acts including cello, piano, guitar, drums and bands as well as two drama performances written by the students. A night not to be missed!

Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand provides a vision screening programme for all Year 7 students.

All google forms for students wanting to play basketball in Term 3 are due by Friday 13 June. A Google form must be completed to ensure your child is added to a team.

Note: We are limited to the number of teams we can enter into this competition. If we are able to enter more teams we will however there is no guarantee that this is possible. It may result in large teams.

Congratulations to the following students who represented Hutt Intermediate at the WRISSA Boys Basketball tournament on Wednesday 11 June.  It was a great day of basketball and all our students showed great sportsmanship throughout the day.

Thank you to the parents who helped out throughout the day and to those who came along to support the team. We really appreciated the support.

We are still confirming the team for the WRISSA Rugby Tournament and practises have been hampered due to the weather. Information will be coming out as soon as possible regarding the tournament.

THE SCHOOL DAY 

The School day commences at 8.55am and finishes at 3.00pm. Punctuality is important. Students are required to bring their PE gear to school every day. 

ABSENCE OR LATE FOR SCHOOL PHONE LINE  

Please remember to notify school before 9.00am if your child will not be at school for all or part of the day. You can do this via our website or by calling our absence line PH: 570 3101. This reduces the lengthy process of contacting you to check on absences. We use an electronic absence notification system, which means you will be initially contacted via text message and/or email when your child is away and no notification has been received. 

Students arriving late for school must sign in using Vistab on arrival before going to class. This is located at the main office.
