WOW, sports is in full swing at H.I.S. So far we have entered 22 teams into the Badminton competition at Naenae Badminton Hall, 9 touch teams at Fraser Park, 3 Water Polo teams into a competition this term at Te Ngaengae Pool, a cricket team into a tournament in March and registrations are happening for Netball and Underwater Hockey. School trials are happening for our WRISSA Sevens tournament later this term and also, as we have had our athletics day, our WRISSA Athletics team will also be named.
There is a lot happening and it is important that students continue to take responsibility by reading the daily bulletin, reading the sports notice board to keep up to date with trials, meetings and knowing when they are playing.
H.I.S Athletics
What a fantastic Athletics day yesterday. Students proudly wore their house colours and they took on the challenge of all of the events with determination and a smile.
Check back in with our next newsletter to learn more about how the day finished and some of the highlights.
Netball
The sports form to sign up for Netball in Term 2 and Term 3 has been sent out to families of the students who have signed up. Please complete the forms by Friday 7th March and payment of $75 by Friday 28th March. We prefer online payments, which can be made directly into our school account HIS Account number: 12-3142-0339812-00. Please use your child’s name and netball as reference. For our netball season to be successful we do need a number of coaches/managers and umpires. Teams can not be entered unless they have a coach or manager and all teams will need an umpire for their games. Start asking around if you know anyone who could umpire your games.
Year 7’s Transition Netball
Netball Hutt Valley are running a transition programme for all the Year 7’s who have signed up for Netball this year. This will take place on Wednesday 12 March from 3pm - 4:30pm on the school turf. It will include understanding positions, Netball Smart warm up, turning on the ball and passing skills, games and a cool down. We encourage all Year 7 students to attend as this will help them develop a further understanding of playing 7 a side netball.
Underwater Hockey
Information has been sent out to families as we look to enter a team into the UHW Mini League that runs on a Saturday evening from 4:30 - 9/9:30pm. We will have registrations for this each term and you can indicate what weeks you are available to play. This information can also be found on our school website.
Wellington Underwater Hockey Association are running some Have A Go Sessions at Te Ngaengae Pool, on Saturday 1st March. If your child is interested in having a go please sign up using the following
link.
There are 3 different sessions 4:30 - 6:30pm - 5:30 - 7pm or 6:30 - 8pm.
WUHA supplies all the equipment but if they do own a mask and flippers we recommend they use them. This costs $10 per student and is paid directly to Wellington Underwater Hockey Association.
Water Polo
We have entered 3 Water Polo teams into Hutt Valley Water Polo Competition at Te Ngaengae Pool on Wednesdays. The competition will start on Wednesday 5th March with games between 5:30 - 7:30pm. Keep an eye out on the sports notice board and in your emails for game times and more information.
