Thank you to everyone who supported Hutt’s Got Talent last week. What an incredible showcase of the creativity and talent we have here at Hutt Intermediate! A huge congratulations to all of our performers—you made us proud with your confidence and enthusiasm. Thank you also to Janine Roberts, our wonderful performing arts teacher who did an amazing job at planning and coordinating this event.

A special mention also to our Whānau Rōpū, who continue to play a key role in building student leadership, cultural pride, and belonging across our kura. Their contribution is helping us grow a more connected and inclusive school community. We feel very lucky to be working with such a great group of people.

Next week we look forward to connecting with you during our Whānau Conferences. These conversations are an important opportunity to reflect on your child’s learning and progress, and to work together to support their continued growth. We value your insights and the strong relationships we share with our families. If you haven’t already booked, please do so via the link contained in this newsletter.

On Tuesday 12th August we will be having another meeting of our “When getting to school is hard” group to come along. We look forward to checking in with whānau already engaged in this group and encourage anyone who is looking for support to assist them with getting a reluctant child to school to come along. We will meet in the staffroom at 5pm.

WRISSA Netball

Congratulations to our 4 teams that attended the WRISSA Netball tournament last week. It was a fantastic day and all teams represented Hutt Intermediate to a high standard showed great team work and determination.

Congratulations to our Hutt A team who has now secured a place in the Toi Whakaihuwaka Tournament in Palmerston North in October.

Thank you to all the coaches, umpires and parent helpers who supported the teams throughout the day. We really appreciate your time and support.

WRISSA Hockey

congratulations to the following students who too part in the WRISSA Hockey Tournament this week and placed 5th. You displayed the Hutt Intermediate school core values and fantastic sportsmanship.

Community Sport

At the beginning of next week an email will come out with the Community Sports Group that your child will be involved in. This will have information and the costs involved. Payments need to be made by Friday 22nd August and can be paid via the school account 12-3142-0339812-00. Include the date this is paid and your child's name and the Community Sport your child is involved in.

If payments are not received by Friday 22nd August, students will be moved into school based activities instead.

We are still missing some students’ choices for this. At this stage the following activities are available:

Les Mills HiTT class
Table tennis

Free activities

Chess (@ School)
Dance
Flag NFL
Game of the week

If we do not have a completed google form then students will be placed into a free at school activity.

A lot of time and effort has been put into ensuring students are placed into a group from one of their three choices and we are unable to shuffle students into other sports.

Touch Term 4

Registrations for Touch Term 4 will be sent out shortly. Students are currently signing up on the sports notice board. Touch is played on a Thursday afternoon/evening at FRASER Park. It runs for 6 weeks in Term 4 starting on Thursday 30 October - Thursday 4 December.

If students would like to play in student chosen teams they will need to organise these before the end of Week 7 of Term 3. They will need to email the team list to Miss Presland (margaretp@his.school.nz) or leave this on the sports office desk.

If students are not in student chosen teams, they will be placed into a team.

Note: All students will need to complete a registration form even if they are having a student chosen team.

Love tennis open day is back in September. There will be something for everyone - mini games, giveaways, BBQs and much more. It’s a fantastic day out for the whole whānau

My experience of HISHGT:

The lights flashed on, and boom, everyone was busy. I looked forward to the crowd and played the first chord, my head pounding at the thought of messing up. But the song was perfect! We played and smiled at the crowd, laughing as we swayed and sang. Then we finished and as the judges gave us feedback, I ran backstage to help with my other job of the night, being one of the stage crew. Being on that stage gave me a lot of courage. Everyone who went up there was brave, talented, and deserved an award.

Stage crew was a challenge, constantly running back and forth, getting one thing to another, and never missing a beat. The stage crew had to move pianos, swap out mics for every single act, and even move a whole band set up in under a minute! Every one of us should be so proud of ourselves and what we managed to accomplish, even though we weren't on stage. Every act was amazing, from drama to singing to bands and I loved helping make it all happen.

HISHGT Wed 23rd July - Our experience

HIS got talent was an amazing experience and a great thing to be a part of. After much practice and lots of hard mahi it all came together on the night. Once we had all gathered and settled in the Performing Arts room, we all filed into a small thin and compact room behind the stage excited and ready to entertain the audience. We performed in a skit that we had written and workshopped with our friends and it felt great to hear everybody laugh and applaud. It was also exciting to hear the positive feedback from the judges. Anu also enjoyed being able to sing in the choir and play the ukulele as part of the entertainment. The different and diverse acts put together made for a great show for both the performers and the audience. It was both nerve racking and exciting waiting to hear the winners being announced. The results were in third place, Joy Waqanisau, with her beautiful singing. Second went to Poppy Wilkinson and her amazing cello performance and winner of the night was none other than Jishnu Karthick with his Multi-cultural dance routine. Overall everyone was amazing and we had a great night!
