Kia ora Koutou Katoa

Thank you to everyone who attended our Whānau Conferences over the last two weeks. It was wonderful to see such strong engagement from our parent community. The conversations between home and school are vital for building strong learning partnerships and supporting our students' progress. We truly appreciate your time and ongoing support. This whakataukī speaks to the strength of our partnerships and shared purpose:

As we settle into the colder months, we are starting to see the usual wave of winter cold and flu viruses. A gentle reminder: if your child is unwell, please keep them at home to rest and recover. This helps protect the health of our whole school community and ensures that everyone has the best chance to learn in a safe environment.

Another reminder as we head into the winter months regards road safety and picking up students after school. In wet and windy weather we see a huge increase in the number of cars arriving to collect students. We tend to see more cars parking on yellow lines and blocking visibility for students to cross roads safely. We ask that you don’t park in areas clearly marked as non parking, across our neighbours’ driveways or on the bus stops. At busy times Kauri street becomes gridlocked. To help avoid this please make arrangements to meet your child on the feeder streets into Kauri and Willoughby Streets e.g. Cudby, Wilford and Hinau. This will help to keep the streets safer for everyone.

We are well into our Social Justice school-wide theme. Many classes have been out for visits or have had speakers in to visit them. To launch our inquiries into social justice our Prefects visited the Lower Hutt Food Bank and shared information about the work they do at a special assembly. We are now collecting cans to donate to them as they are struggling to meet demand at present. If you do have any cans of food to donate please send these to school by next Friday.

It has been lovely seeing some sunshine this week, may it last!

Water Polo Festival

Congratulations to all the students who competed in the Water Polo Festival over the weekend of 10 - 11 May. Our Strikes team competed in the A grade and went through the weekend undefeated and came out GOLD Medal Winners.

Thank you to the parents who looked after the two teams over the weekend and supported them throughout the two days.

WRISSA Girls Football

CONGRATULATIONS to the WRISSA Girls Football team, who competed in the WRISSA Tournament on Wednesday 7 May. Not only did they WIN this competition but they have also qualified for Toi Whakaihuwaka in Palmerston North in October.

It was a fantastic day with a very high level of competition, lots of smiling faces and quite few goals as well. Thank you so much to Cole, Jen and Mrs Harrison for taking the students on the day.

WRISSA Boys Football

CONGRATULATIONS on their fantastic achievement in winning the WRISSA Boys’ Football Tournament yesterday. You all represented our school with pride, demonstrating our Core Values of Respect, Resilience, and Excellence both on and off the field. We are incredibly proud of your teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. As a result of your success, we’ve earned a place in the two-day Toi Whakaihuwaka tournament in Palmerston North during Term 4. Well done

Tough Guy and Gal Challenge

We have 140 students attending the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge on Wednesday 21 May. This takes place at Camp Wainui. It involves a 3km muddy obstacle course consisting of swamp crossings, a spider’s web net climb, crawling under obstacles, beautiful native bush trails, tunnels, hurdles, a climbing frame, water crossings and not to mention mud, mud and more mud.

Students will need to meet in the Hall at 8:40am. They are able to come to school in the gear they will participate in. Please ensure students are on time as we will not be waiting for late students.

Students will need to bring:

A spare bag to put all their dirty clothes and shoes into.
A towel and their school uniform, school hoodie or jacket and/or beanie to change into after the event. Hot showers will be available, and students will need to be clean before returning to school.
It is compulsory to wear shoes during this event. Football or rugby boots with moulded studs are acceptable. Running spikes and boots with aluminium studs are not permitted.
Morning tea, lunch and a drink bottle.
