It was great to see so many of you at our Whānau picnic last week. We were lucky with the weather and the games of Danish Rounders and Touch Rugby were keenly contested by children, staff and parents alike.
By now your child should have started to settle into life here at Hutt Intermediate. We realise that for some of our tamariki the transition to a new school or a new class is not as smooth as they, or you, would like. There are a variety of reasons for this. However, whatever the reason may be, if your child is having difficulty adapting to their new environment or is having any other problems, please contact the class teacher immediately. We find that when we are alerted early we can all work together to put solutions in place. Please get in touch about any issues as soon as possible to prevent things escalating unnecessarily.
A public service announcement!!! Please do not park over our neighbours' driveways or on yellow lines. This causes all sorts of disruptions to our neighbours and to the flow of traffic around the school. Police do patrol our area on a regular basis after school and they do issue infringement notices. Your consideration here is greatly appreciated.
We have also noticed many of our tamariki have a poor knowledge of basic pedestrian safety. We have already had concerned parents and members of the public contact us about children running across the road without looking and stepping out on crossings without checking to see if drivers have stopped for them. If your child walks, scoots or cycles to and from school can you please reinforce to them the basics of pedestrian safety.
One of the many great things about an Intermediate School is the variety of activities tamariki can involve themselves in. With this in mind we publish our daily bulletin on our website https://www.his.school.nz/newsletter_sets/2-daily-bulletin/years/2025 so that you can see what is happening at school and encourage your child to sign up. This bulletin is also shared with the students daily and it is expected that they will take responsibility for signing up and attending meetings.
We have had a very busy start to the school year! Thank you to all the helpers who attended the team trips to Ākau Tangi Sports Centre this week. There are many more activities planned in our Term 1 calendar. Coming up in the next few weeks we have our first Whānau Rōpū meeting, our school athletics day and preparation for our Year 8 camps in early March. The dates for these are on our website calendar and we hope to see many of you at these events.
It looks like summer has arrived at last so we hope you have a great weekend enjoying the sun.
Ngā mihi
